Tristan working at a school means he brings home a variety of germs every day, so I try to make decently balanced meals on a daily basis to keep us healthy. And we've been doing a pretty damn good job of not getting sick! Neither one of us has gotten a cold for over a year!
When it seems like friends or coworkers are getting sick, I like to make a giant mugful of golden milk as a snack.
Golden milk, or turmeric milk, is an Indian drink that's become increasingly popular because it's full of antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. It seems like it's traditionally made with cow's milk, but we're pretty much dairy free in our home. I combine canned coconut milk and almond milk, but I think any milk would work as long as it's fatty.
Because it's high in fat, it's a great pick me up in the afternoon. You know, when you're in need of something around 4 pm to keep you going until dinner... and you're too lazy to go out so you end up eating random things you have in your kitchen?
If you've never had golden milk before, it's creamy, warm, and just a tad spicy. I sweeten it with raw honey or coconut sugar but I would say it's both savory and sweet. Kind of like a mildly sweet Indian curry in drink form. Although, that doesn't make it sound appetizing at all, does it haha. But really, just
Want to add turmeric to your diet but golden milk doesn't sound like your thing? Try my vegan chickpea curry instead!
- ¾ cup full fat coconut milk (from a can)
- ¾ cup water
- 1 ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon raw honey (coconut sugar works well too)
- Put everything into a pot and heat over medium heat while constantly whisking for 3-4min.
- Pour the hot golden milk into two big mugs and enjoy.

Hi, it's Kristina from Fiesta Friday. I love drinking golden milk when I get sick. I've never added honey to it before, but thanks for the good idea, I will have to try it. It will probably taste even better! I just love how there are natural ways to prevent getting sick. They all seem to work pretty well for me and my family!
Hey Kristina! I've never had mine without honey or coconut sugar, but I bet it's just as delicious!
I know what you mean about natural ways to stay healthy. I feel like too often people rely on medicine or synthetic chemicals. I was definitely one of them! haha but once I got pregnant, I started rethinking my ways 🙂
Age old remedy, works. Thanks for posting to Fiesta Friday #258. Rita
Thanks, Rita! Happy Fiesta Friday!

You know I still haven't got around to making this! We do add fresh turmeric to our dairy free smoothies though but I so want to make this now! 😀 Those bubbles too! 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing with us at Fiesta Friday. Have a great weekend.
Oh, I've never tried fresh turmeric! And in your smoothie sounds delicious! I'll definitely have to try that the next time I have a smoothie 🙂

Tristan is so sweet to let you borrow his mug, don't you think? Haha! I think he's a funny guy. I want to try this, but definitely not with milk. I am not lactose intolerant, but I feel dizzy when I drink milk - not all the time, but maybe 90% of the time. Using coconut milk sounds lovely, but do you taste it?? Happy Fiesta Friday, Ai. I guess we'll be co-hosting next week. 😉
Happy Fiesta Friday! Haha sweet for letting me use it but I had to wash it myself so not THAT sweet😂 I'm not lactose intolerant either but I avoid it because it makes old pains ache. It's so interesting how foods we're not technically allergic to affect us in certain ways! I'd say yes, you do taste the coconut milk. I think the spices have a stronger taste, but the coconut flavor is still there.
Yay! Glad to have you as my co-host!!🥳
